reservation for Blue Lagoon

I'm planning a trip to Europe in August with a 48 hour layover in Iceland (fingers crossed!) The flight I'm looking at arrives at 6:20 and we'd like to head straight to the Blue Lagoon. We're strictly carry on, and will be picking up a car at the airport. When would be a good time to reserve spots?

Thanks,
Kerri in Victoria

You are talking about August of 2022? There's no way of knowing what the flights and airport protocols will be like that far away. I'd check back next June.

Call me an optimist but if Icelandair is willing to sell me a ticket from Toronto, I'll take!

They may sell you a ticket, but in the small print, it will say they reserve the right to change their schedules. I haven’t taken many flights in the last 2 years that haven’t had changes - one flight moved by 4 days! This happened within a week of the flight.

I wouldn’t reserve any lagoon spots this far out.

Kerri, all my experience is pre-covid but when I arrived on an early morning flight, it was fairly quick to process through immigration and customs. I don’t think it was more than 20 minutes from exiting the plane to leaving the airport.

I can’t help with Blue Lagoon info since I chose to do other activities.

The Blue Lagoon opens at 9am, so I would book for that and you will have plenty of time. You will probably have time to kill, so maybe stop on the way for coffee etc.

Perhaps check Flight Aware to determine if the flight you want has actually been flying, what the dependability is, etc. British Airways sold us tickets when they hadn't been flying into our city for the previous 18 months. I guess they had HOPED thru would be by our dates [Sept 2021]; they were not, and it resulted in 6 flight changes, and then a final flight cancelation. Then we found Flight Aware. Good luck and safe travels!

Thanks for the advice re: the Blue Lagoon. KEF sounds like an efficient airport. Obviously, I'm not booking any tickets right now but certainly within the next few months. Planning is half the fun isn't it?
