Rental Cars in Iceland

Any suggestions as a good company or wholesaler to rent a car in Iceland? Pickup and drop off at KEF. So many options now compared to previous trips.

I haven’t stayed abreast of current options (what are the differences - just more rental companies, or lots of different rental methods and types of services?), but on our last trip, we went with good, old, Hertz. We also rented at their facility in Reykjavik, since we weren’t going to want a car the moment we arrived, and took the bus to and from the airport.

Blue and Lotus are the two that are the highest regarded. We have used Blue on 3 trips so far and will use them again this summer. They have locations at both the airport as well as in downtown Reykjavik.

We rented from Blue with no complaints and will do so again this May. Also, there's no additional fee to drop off in Reykjavik - a limo to the airport is a nice but slightly expensive perk.

I'm renting from Blue Car for a couple of reasons:
- good reviews on several sites
- located quick walk from airport if you want to skip the shuttle. Prices were same as Dollar & Thrifty without a long shuttle ride.
- drop off in Reykjavik for no extra charge.
- very responsive to my emails
Prices on website are pay on arrival prices. If you want to see prepay prices select a car to be taken to info page. Scroll to bottom and both prices are listed.
I found this coupon code that works on their site: #exp19. It is entered on info page in lower right corner

We are going this week and per recommendation from All Things Iceland, we decided on Go Cars (Greenmotion). All Things Iceland is a local and is a great podcast. We compared it to Blue and Lotus and this SEEMS better:-)

MtnGal,
Where do I input the coupon code on Blue rental? I'm on their website now, but there is no option to put in any codes when I go through the booking process.

Select your vehicle, go through insurance & extras pages. Coupon code field is in lower right corner of Personal Details just above terms and conditions.

Does anyone know if there is a maximum age limit in Iceland for renting and driving rental vehicles?

Wouldn't the maximum age be determined by each rental company?

We rented from Blue last year when my husband was 78 and I can't remember them even asking. I suggest that you look at the website for both Blue and Lotus to see if age is one of the requirements.

I have been looking at several sites for this information. Thanks for sharing! Good to know that 78 seemed to be ok.

I've used Blue Car multiple times and been very happy with everything about their service and the cars I've been given. Know that even their comprehensive insurance doesn't cover everything that could happen. I always pay with my Chase Sapphire card so that I'm covered for anything that may happen.
