Hello,
My husband and I will be traveling to Iceland in August, and we've decided not to drive while there. Does anyone have recommendations for companies that do day tours from Reykjavik? I've come across a lot of companies, but it's hard to know which are best. We're thinking about doing the Golden Circle and South Coast. We're seniors and not particularly fast walkers; also we love photography and hope to have time for that. We'd probably prefer to see a smaller number of top sights than rush from place to place. I don’t have any recommendations for tours, but I was just in Iceland last week, and it is a very easy country to drive in. Because you have some mobility issues, you may actually prefer to drive yourself instead of having to be on a tourist timetable. Just a thought. There is a long-ish walk from the parking lots to all of the sites which I was not expecting. (I have some mobility issues.) It’s mostly flat though.
We did both the Golden Circle and South Coast and Rick Steves recommendations in his book regarding the times were spot on. The only area that I disagreed with him was I thought Thingvillir needed a little more time than he said.

Reykjavik Excursions is the largest and best known tour operater in Iceland. They also operate the Flybus most use for airport transfer into Reykjavik.

I used a big bus tour by Reykjavik Excursions for golden circle and northern lights (not possible in August) - both fine, nothing fancy but got you there. I did a small bus day trip of south coast with GeoIceland (https://geoiceland.com/index.html) and had a good guide. All of th companies pretty much use the same system - pick ups at designated tour bus stops downtown, or you take shuttle from one of the stops to the bus station to catch the tour.

We have used Troll.is twice for excursions from the city. They are very good and often times have small buses vs the huge coach ones. One of the times we used them was in the winter and weather forced a change in plans. Troll was excellent with communication and refunded the portion that was cancelled, immediately. When we used them on our next trip, everything went very smooth and they did a great job again.

Take a look at Nonni Travel in Aukreyri. Here is their website: http://www.nonnitravel.is/. We used them in 2021 with excellent results.
