Overhead Space / Icelandic Air / Saga

I am flying to Iceland in Nov, and my wife and I are flying Icelandic Air. As I am 6'4", I try to get the seats with the most room. I also just travel with carry on luggage. What is the overhead-head space like in the Saga Premium class? Can we bring our standard size roller-bag (my wife's) and I travel with a Patagonia Black Hole (60 L). This would be in addition to our travel backpacks...

Presumably you have seen what the baggage allowance is. ( if not see above)

No personal experience, but comments I have seen is that Iceland Air enforces their limits., (dimensions and weight).

If your baggage conforms to the limits there will be a place for it.

I have flown in Saga a few times. The overhead compartments are the same as in coach but with less people to fill them.

My bags have never been weighed. The last time I flew, everyone had to check their bags with the gate agent and get sized and weighed. When it was my turn, they looked at my boarding pass and said "thank you." No weighing. But they did look at the size.

While they probably won't weigh it, they might take a second look at a 60L bag if it is over the size limit. Especially if Saga is full.

When you say in addition to your travel backpacks....what size are these backpacks?

My husband and I flew Saga class on Iceland Air in October departing from JFK. We had two backpacks (each, 12x18x8 inches) and a small hard-sided suitcase for our cabin items. They weighed nothing but they did measure our hard sided suitcase. Our suitcase is 21.7x15.8x9.1 inches and it fit with very little (if any) room to spare inside the measurer (or whatever you call those metal boxes at the check in counter that you put your luggage into to see if it will be allowed in the cabin). How big is the Patagonia Black Hole? Note that the dimensions of our items are slightly bigger than Iceland Air’s stated maximums. BTW, the seats are spacious with good leg room (6’ 4” husband and 6’ wife) but in case you do not know, I will mention that they do not recline much. We typically fly business class with lay flat seats and we knew ahead of time that these would not be lay flat but it was well worth the money spent which was approximately $2,400 for two tickets to Paris as compared to $4,000 per ticket on Air France.

My experience is that they are far more lax when it comes to Saga class. In Seattle they often measure carryons of coach, but not Saga Class. In Iceland, anything goes.

My trip in Oct. from Paris was no different than most other airlines. Bags weren’t sized. Bags that should have been checked were stuffed into the overheads.

Like other airlines, the pressure to avoid luggage fees sometimes results in Coach passengers who board later putting their excessive carry-ons in Business overheads, or even cabin staff doing that later. While July is a peak month, our JFK/EWR Saga Premium 2023 round-trip plane was completely full and rather noisy. That is partly because it's only a five or so hour flight. Very hard to sleep, even in Saga. No breakfast served.

I have been to Iceland a number of of times, but have never flown Saga, just regular coach. For coach, they do weigh and measured the bags and are quite strict. We are in compliance so it is fine with us. We always fly out of SEA. Flying home from KEF you self tag and put the bag on the conveyer yourself. At the gate, they have sizers and the agents will come through and ask people to put their bags in that and if they do not fit, she takes them to be checked.
