Options (not taxis!) for transport from Reykjavik city center hotel to cruise port(s)

We are going to be in a Reykjavik center city hotel overnight the day before our cruise departs. We need transport to the cruise terminal (Oceania). I understand taxis are expensive and possibly sketchy. What is the simplest/most reasonable option?

Don't know what possibly sketchy means to you. I would use them. Contact the hotel and see what their recommendation is. Sometimes cruise ships will have shuttle service from certain hotels so you might contact the cruise line.

Straeto citybuses #12 and #16, cost 670Kr ($5.50) each. There is a route map and timetables on the Straeto website.

Your best bet is to have the hotel book a taxi for you. They will work with reliable companies and know approximately what the cost will be. (Taxis are not cheap in Reykjavik.)

They may also know of transfer services that will take you for a fixed price.

The other alternative is to use the Hopp app. It works like Uber but the vehicles are all taxis. You get an approximate price and pay through the app. (No Uber or Bolt in Reykjavik.)

Your hotel might know of other althernatives. You're not their first guests who needed to get to the cruise port.

And, as mentioned, see what the cruise line has to offer.

Taxis are expensive but we have never had a sketchy one there. Hreyfill is one racy company that is very reputable. You can book ahead on their app or just give them a call.

There is an issue with taxis now in Iceland. The law has recently changed allowing for anyone to start a taxi company. This has resulted in some drivers overcharging tourists.

This video has some good advice for those wanting to take a taxi from the airport.

Unfortunately, I did not see this video until after I returned from my trip. We were charged $200 for our ride from the airport to our hotel in the city center. We had our hotel arrange a taxi for our ride back to the airport and that was $146. Lesson learned. :-)

Carrie--Sorry that happened to you! The video was good, and the company he is with is great. I will say though, when he says you do not need cash, that is incorrect depending on where you go. There are some hot pots (not the big commercial ones) that are cash only, and some toilets are cash only, and at some campgrounds to do laundry you need coins. Plus random roadside stands are cash only. So there are exceptions, and I would hate for anyone to get in a pickle because of this.

Our city-center hotel arranged a taxi for us to the cruise port. I think it cost about $25 and took about 15 minutes. We could have saved money using the buses, but would have had to transfer with our bags and spent a lot longer. I think Hreyfill was the cab company, well worth it.

Everything in Iceland is expensive, but to your question about "the simplest/most reasonable option" I'd say a taxi that your hotel arranges for you.
