One Day to South Coast - Selfoss to Selfoss (late July)

Planning a day to South Coast. - Starting and Ending in Selfoss. Since it's one way back and forth vs a loop I'm hoping someone can suggest an alternative order of stops.

Perhaps some of these destinations better in afternoon? or better in morning?

Am I missing anything worthwhile? Advance tickets?

Should be on the road by 9:30/10am. Planning lunch in Vik before we head back. Would appreciate any Vik recommendations/food as well. Thank in advance.

Selfoss start and end....

Seljalandsfoss
Gljufrabui Waterfalls (if we can find)
Skogafoss
Solheimajokull Glacier
Dyrholaåey
Reynisfjara Beach
Vik

If you can leave earlier, the better. Otherwise you will be right there with all the tour buses.

You do not need tickets for any of this. Just pay for parking via the app or at a machine in the lot.

At Skogafoss, do not miss Kvernufoss which is just up the road from there. Beautiful and far fewer people. You do need to pay to park here so go inside to do that.

At Seljalandsfoss, facing it you will see a paved path to the left. Take that to get to Gljufrabui. There you need to hug the wall to get inside. People help each other and take turns. It’s beautiful in there but can get very crowded.

In Vik, both the Soup Company as well as Black Crust Pizza are excellent.

Don’t t forget about Yoda Cave which is very close to Reynisfjara. Btw it is paid parking at both of these now. At Reynisfjara you need to be extremely careful as there are many sneaker waves and people do get swept out to sea. There is a warning board to read and pay attention to what level warning it is. Do not go inside the cave. You will get trapped when the waves hit. Aldo ne er turn your back to the ocean and stay behind the wet line in the sand.

If you get short on time, skip Solheimajokul. Unless you do the actual glacier hike, you will not get very close to the glacier.

Thank you for the tips/additions....Didn't realize there was a parking app.

Yes....I had seen the warning about the beach...will definitely heed warnings.

It's unlikely we hike up to the glacier.

You would need to go with a guide for a glacier hike but you won’t have time for that in just one day.

For the app, when you turn the car in be sure to remove the license plate number and your credit card info from the app.

What is the name of the parking app? Can anyone comment on whether the app from Guide To Iceland is worth downloading? Thank you.

Parka is the app that we used the most but I know there is another. I just can’t think of the name right now.
