We are visiting Iceland in mid August with my 8 month son. We cannot visit the Blue Lagoon with him since babies are not allowed there. Is there a reliable and safe nanny/child care service in Iceland that can take care of the baby for a few hours while we make a quick trip to Blue Lagoon?

I would suggest that you contact your hotel with this question. You would want someone that is located near your hotel.

One alternative would be, if no nanny service is available, to skip the blue lagoon and go to Laugarvatn Fontana instead. Infants are totally welcome there.
