Multi day organized tours

I am planning a solo trip to Iceland and so would feel most comfortable joining an organized tour that's at least 7 days and covers a lot of the country. Does anyone have any recommended tour companies?

Odysseys Unlimited has a tour of Iceland.

While I have not taken this specific tour, I have traveled with them a few times. They are popular with people on this board.

The price you see quoted on their website includes air but you can arrange that yourself. Call them for the land only price.

Iceland is a wonderful place and I've been a few times. Most people speak English. Just bring plenty of money as the place is not cheap.

When are you going? What are your priorities in terms of sights? I spent my whole time in Reykjavik and did day tours from there (Golden Circle, South Coast, northern lights) which covered a lot of what I wanted to see. I used this tour company in Reykjavik (food tour - great) and this is their 8 day ring road small group tour:

We always self drive in Iceland, but have used Troll for day excursions that need guides as well as a 2 day winter trip. That trip turned into a one day trip due to weather, but the way Troll handled it they won me over. Excellent communication and they processed the partial refund immediately. The excursions we have done with them were excellent as well. I don't hesitate to recommend them at all.

I don't know of a tour, but I'd tell you that I'd really recommend getting a car and doing the trip yourself (assuming you are going in the summer). It's such an easy country to get around in. I went last June and the traffic was always manageable. Most of the main sites are easy to get to (i.e. no need to take an F roads if you don't want to).

Many thanks for all the suggestions. I am still in the early stages of planning my trip and want to see as much of the scenic highlights as I can, meet Icelanders, eat the food, experience the culture etc. I am thinking of going next September in order to avoid the largest crowds and hopefully see the northern lights.

There is a RS guide, James Macletchie, who has his own company, Igot2travel that does small group tours of Iceland. A friend, who is a forum member, did the Iceland tour Summer 2022.

If you want to go with a bigger small group, lol, Road Scholar does have some tours to Iceland. There are a couple of Facebook pages for RS where it's pretty easy to find others who have done certain programs if you have specific questions. I'm on these 2 FB pages - Women of Road Scholar and Friends of Road Scholar. The tour groups are overwhelmingly American although generally there are a few Canadians sprinkled in here and there.

I've not done any of the tours to Iceland so no personal experience.

A local friend went to Iceland a few years ago, and I believe she used the company Pam just referenced. In fact, we may be talking about the same Forum member! I'm send her a message and get her to respond.

Edit to add: I just emailed her, her name is Kim.

Oh, Pam, if I had paid more attention, I would have noticed you posted a link. That's what happens when one just skims the text@

But I did message Kim, in case she has anything to add, and I'll see her tomorrow at our travel group. Thanks for the "dope slap!"

Has anyone heard of Nice Travel? They have a trip that seems to cover a lot of ground. I know lots of you have been to Iceland several times but I don't expect to go again so would like to see as much as I can.

Jill--I have one friend that has used them and they were very pleased. If I were to do a tour, that is one that I would look into. As I said though, we have always self driven, 5 trips so far and headed back again in February.

I would not hesitate to travel with Igot2travel. James does not lead his tour in Iceland. He has a colleague in Iceland to does the tours. Small tours I am very fond of now. There was only four of us with Hildur. He did not do any for 2023. Iceland has become so expensive thus year per James. I don’t know what he will do for 2024. As Pam posted …. It was my TR.

As I Recall , tour included just about everything

Jill, I was pleased with the two tours that I took with Reykjavik Excursions when I was there traveling solo in late September this year. I also used them to book the FlyBus transport from the airport to Reykjavik.

Jill, some good friends of mine were on a tour there with Odysseys Unlimited a couple of months ago. They flew from Vancouver and were very impressed with the company. Small groups and excellent tour guide.
