Lower Cost Options for Lamb?

I absolutely love Icelandic lamb and try to get as much of it as I can when I visit. I'm getting ready for another trip soon and noticed that the price of lamb in the restaurants seems to be higher (gotta love inflation). For instance, in 2023, I ate at Greifinn in Akureyri and it was around 5900 ISK, but now it's like 7900 ISK. Does anyone have any recommendations for lamb that won't break the bank in a restaurant? Have all the restaurants gone up that much?

Yess, the restaurants have raised their prices overall. We will be back again in about 2 weeks, but only headed to the north this time. I love lamb in Iceland, so I just try not to look at the prices;). Otherwise if you have a place with a kitchen, you can buy pre-marinated lamb at Bonus and it is quite good.

LOL! You're right. The lamb might be good enough to ignore the prices. :) Any places you recommend to try? Always up for trying a new place! We could always cook too, but not sure we have time in our schedule to spend cooking lamb the right way.

Where will you be? Cooking it premarinated is so easy and we do it often there. You can also buy cod as well as arctic char.

We'll be in Reykjavik and the South Coast for half the trip, then switching it up and will be in the north near Akureyri for half the trip.

Ok, places in those areas where we have had excellent lamb include these.

Reykjavik--Loa, Forrettabarinn, and Sjavargrillid. Two places that are supposed tote excellent that I have not tried yet at Reykjavik Kitchen and Torfan.

Along the south coast, Ingolfsskali Viking Restaurant is so good! On Westmann Island, Slippurinn is excellent. In the Golden Circle, Mika is not to be missed. If you are in Grindavik, the Northern Light Inn has a wonderful restuarant, Max's, and their lamb is really good. We are dining there again in a couple of weeks.

If on Snaefellsness, Narfeyrarstofa in Stikkisholmur has lamb. We did not have it there as we had their signature cod, but that restuarant is excellent and I would not hesitate to order anything there.

Not sure of your route, but if you are doing Snaefellsness then on to Akureyri, Dalakot Restaurant has great lamb chops.

In Akureyri and that general area, we did not eat out for dinner as we had cottages and just cooked our own meals there. We will be up there on this upcoming trip though and are eating out, but not sure of your dates and if you will be there at the same time, etc.

Awesome! Thanks for the list! I'll check these out! I'll be there in a couple weeks myself, hoping to join up with a friend.
