Lodging in Vik

Any suggestions on lodging in Vik or nearby toward the SE of Iceland, in mid-September?

Most places there are already sold out. We head back in mid September again and when I was booking about 6 weeks ago there was very little availability. The thing with Iceland is that most people book out a year or so in advance, so you are really late. We have been many times, and I know this, yet our trim was booked on a whim and I knew the odds were against us. I had to finagle our itinerary to work with lodging availability.

My best suggestion is to look at booking.com for anything in the area. Then look at google maps and put in Vik, and then at the top click on hotels and then you can click on all of them that come up.

Good luck, and have a great trip!

Also look at bungalo.com

I use Google Maps to find those more out of the way places. When you filter by "hotel" for some reason unidentified red dots also show up. If you click on those, you'll find guesthouses and farm stays. Although you might end up booking through booking.com or bungalo, at least looking at a map helps figure out where places are.

When planning for our trip for this September, I quickly booked lodgings (booking.com) in the rough/general areas but only if they had free cancellation. THEN, when I knew I had a least a place to stay, I looked closer at our itinerary and rebooked and cancelled the initial bookings to fine tune our trip.

I was surprised how limited my choices were, back in January, for places between Selfoss and Hofn that were reasonably priced (about $200, with free cancellation, breakfast and private bathroom).
