Hello - I am traveling the ring road in 9 days this October. Not sure if I will get a chance to do the Golden Circle. Are there any good places to see local bands? I thought it might be interesting and fun to listen to some in the evening after I've finished exploring the landscape.
Also, do you need to use one of the aroura apps to see the northern lights? I'm going to be camping, so will be outside.

I used this app for the northern lights and so did our guide. It will give you a forecast for anyplace in the world, especially for your location. It is giving me a forecast for Frankfurt right now. 0%, but you never know. It told me I should look for them in the middle of the night last month when I was in Reykyavik, and so I did and got lucky.

There are also some FB groups that give forecasts and they can be helpful concerning photography too.

We used a few different aurora apps, but mostly just looked up. We have had two October trips, and both times the aurora put on quite the show. The last time, we could see the vivid greens even up at the church when it was lit up in pink. It was not supposed to be a good night for it, but you never know, and we had such an amazing show!
As for music, one campground just outside of Holmavik, had a live band when we were there last summer. We are pretty sure every resident from within a 20 mile radius was there;) It was wonderful, but we had no idea since we just turned up at that campground on a whim.
