Layover question

I was looking at a potential itinerary, where I would have laover, arriving at KEF at 335 pm one day,and flying out 5 pm the next.
Figuring that I would want to be back at the airport by 3 pm on flyout day,and without getting up at Crack of dawn that day, what is realistic to attempt
Thanks

I have stayed twice at the (Aurora?) hotel right at the airport. You literally walk there across a parking lot in 5 minutes. I believe you can pay more for a later checkout. By "not getting up at the crack of dawn" were you meaning going away from the airport for the overnight layover? Or did you mean a m. rather than p.m?
There's cheaper options, too, not far away rather than going all the way into or near Reykjavik.

Depending on what the destination is, that may or may not be soon enough to be there.

Checking bags?

Where are you flying in from and where are you flying to? That makes a big difference in how much time you actually have.

I would stay in Reykjavik since you do not have an early morning flight. Take either Flybus or a taxi (runs about $150 US dollars), and go into Reykjavik and enjoy the city for the evening. There is a lot to do there. I highly recommend the food tour. It lasts 3 hours and there is a ton of food. It is a great way to get to know the country and to sample the foods. We have done this a couple of times. If you need other ideas for the city, just ask.

It is a good 45 minutes minimum from KEF into Reykjavik. So depending on where you are flying to, you may need the full 3 hours that are recommended, plus the 45 minute drive to get to KEF. So that would mean leaving Reykjavik no later than 1pm. That isn't enough time to go outside of the city and sightsee, so plan more city stuff. If you like hot springs, Sky Lagoon is in town, although on the outskirts, or Blue Lagoon is near the airport. Either one would be a really nice way to spend that last morning.
