Only the first place we are staying specifically lists a clothes washer and dryer on the listing. Wet definitely going to need to wash clothes one additional time. I am wondering what others have done for laundry on their trips? I've got a laundry bar, so I can wash clothes in a tub or sink...but will it be too humid to properly air dry?
It sounds like laundromat are not common throughout Iceland and laundry services are very pricey. What am I missing?
Do your other lodgings have an outside space you could string up a temporary clothes line? July is the most humid month, but an outside breeze would help.
So you’re going in June, right? We did some underwear in the sink, but that was the only washing we needed doing in Iceland. Hanging near/over a heater, by an open window, or using a hairdryer can help. But ours was a week and a half, and in early April, and with no kids.
How long is your trip, and are you using any hotels, which might have laundry service? We’ve done the drop-off at a laundromat, get everything done in a single load, pick it up semi-folded at the end of the day in Paris, but not in Iceland. Is there a chance that 2 pairs of pants and 4 or 5 shirts apiece would get each person by on the rest of the trip, after your first stay? Use socks more than once?
Yes, we'll be there in June. I didn't see laundry listed on the websites of the other hotels, but I'll look into it.
We'll be there 13 nights total, and I'm planning on 4-5 days worth of clothes for each of us.
If there aren't any other good laundry options, I can wash clothes at the end of each day and air dry them to keep up on it. We'll bring quick drying fabrics. My kids hate jeans and won't wear them anyway!
Looking at laudromat options, it looks best to plan to be independent. Some dry cleaners offer laundry services but expensive unless you have large garbage bag full for bulk cleaning. Otherwise cost per item.
Claire, where are you going to be in Iceland? I hear that some of the MANY campsites have washing machines. The Camping Card website has a list of them that includes the services they provide: https://utilegukortid.is/flokkur/camping-sites/?lang=en. I'm not sure if you need to camp or pay the camping fees to use the services, since they likely are coin operated.
I've never used them but have passed by on a couple of trips.

It's in Reykjavik. There are others.
I wrote an email to a couple of the places where we will be staying and asked them about laundry facilities. Although it was not listed on their websites or booking pages, they did have something available for us to use.
