I’ve already been to Jokulsarlon and South Coast on a day trip
On my last day should I spend it in Reykavik, Snaefellsnes or to Katla/ice caves?
Finding it very hard to decide
Are you there now or is this for a later trip?
If you are there now , I would do Snaefellsness as it is a real gem. Katla is better in the winter when the cave has formed again. If you there in winter Katla is really good!
Yes I’m there now, thank you so much!
Saw the diamond beach and jokulsarlon and was so impressed so imagined the ice caves would still be around
Between Snaefellsnes and Westman islands if I’ve already seen the south coast which do you recommend?
Is Snaefellsnes similar to golden circle/south coast views?
we didn't make it to snaelfellsnes but we loved the Westman islands.....the ferry was such a pleasant surprise. was there late july in a ton of rain -- in better weather I imagine its even more stunning. Puffins, volcano museum, black sand beaches and a nice lunch near harbor....
people on this board LOVE snaefellsness, but I'd probably pick most geographically desirable....you want go give any location enough time
We just got back from our 8th trip and have over 65 nights there. I adore Snaefellsness as it has a wide variety of sights do I like a mini Iceland. It is not at all like the Golden Circle. Also far fewer people.
Katla is nice, but won’t have the is factor right now. Plus ice caves are controversial right now as last year one collapsed and killed a person. So the authorities did not allow them to open until October 1st last year The rule of thumb is basically November through March first the safest time.
I would skip Westmann this time of year. The puffins are long gone. Snaefellsness will offer you much more to see and do.
