Isafjordur-Akureyri, Iceland and Qaqortoq, Greenland-not to miss

Our Iceland trip next summer starts by embarking on a ship in Reykjavik, cruising and spending 1 day each in Isafjordur and Akureyri, Iceland, then moving on to Qaqortoq, Greenland. We plan to be in Reykjavik area for several days before we board ship and will probably stick to Rick's itinerary thereabouts. We'd love recommendations for "not to miss" on our days in Isafjordur and Akureyri, and Qaqortoq. Thanks in advance.

Since you haven't gotten any replies, I suggest posting on the TripAdvisor Iceland forum. Both Ísafjörður and Akureyri have been discussed there. Maybe there's even a Greenland forum.

Not sure about "not to miss", but we really enjoyed the Botanical Garden in Akureyri.

I've spent time in Isafjordur. It's very much a fishing village. There's a sizable hospital, a nice but very functional town center, and it's surrounded by stunning mountains around the fjord. It's really a jumping off point for the Hornstrandir Peninsula which is a nature preserve about 20 miles to the north across the fjord. If you have 5-6 hours, hire a boat and have them take you along the coast of Hornstrandir on the Isafjordor side. It's simply stunning. Borea Adventures operates off of the dock there - I use them when I go hiking in Hornstrandir to drop me off and pick me up. The boat is not cheap but there is really nowhere else on earth like the area I'm recommending. They mainly pick up and drop off people from all of the inlets where trailheads are found - you'll meet very interesting people on that boat!
