We are planning a trip to Iceland in July of 2023. Our plan is to rent a car at Keflavik, tour the South Coast, drive to Reykjavik, and return the rental car at the Keflavik City airport before flying to Akureyi. Is is possible to rent a car at one airport and return it at another one? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
The general answer is yes BUT --- need to double check when the reservation is made and there is the possibility of an additional drop fee. Ask and make sure it is in writing.
Yes. Did this about 5 years ago. I believe I used Avis. Flew in from Dublin via Oslo (cheap ticket) and flew out to the Faroes from RKV. Atlantic Airways only flew from RKV. Not sure if that has changed
When I dropped the car there was no one to receive it. I just parked it and dropped the keys in the Dropbox. No issues
We have done this using Blue Car Rental. No extra drop off fees with them. Just make sure you let them know.
We are doing the same thing in July 2023. I just rented a car through Europcar with a pickup at Keflavik and a return at Reykjavik Domestic - no drop off fee.
We rented from Blue car rental and they were extremely helpful. I suggest that you do a booking on their website just to see if you can do the pick up and drop off that you want. Or, you could just email them.
EDIT: Do you mean in your post that you want to drop off at Reykjavik domestic airport? You wrote "Keflavik city airport".
