Is GPS needed along with Car Rentals ?

We didn't rent one. We used maps.me (without data, just relies on phone GPS, obviously have your data turned off) to do all of our navigating and it worked great. You can use google maps offline as well. This way you can save on mobile data charges! If you're already planning on taking mobile data (would recommend the plans from verizon and others that charge for 24 hr periods, then if you don't use it you don't get charged), then the extra cost of the GPS would be redundant. Either way, I'd skip it.

Tip from our car rental guy: Google places or street names, then click the link. When you google things, they come with icelandic letters, which can then be transferred to google maps. If you try typing in an address on google maps, it may not translate correctly.
