Keflavik Airport entertains stopover passengers with cultural micro-tours
KEF Airport in Iceland has launched what it describes as the world’s first on-site airport tour programme, giving departing passengers the chance to experience Icelandic culture before leaving the country.
Named the Bless Programme – “bless” meaning goodbye in Icelandic – the initiative offers complimentary guided tours lasting between 30 and 45 minutes inside the airport. The programme has been designed as an extra cultural experience for travellers who may not have had time to explore every aspect of Iceland during their trip.

Thanks, Emma. That does look interesting. Here’s a link to the airport program, in a case anyone wants to see the exact dates. https://www.kefairport.com/blesstours

I would love to do something like that, but I just don’t know if it will be possible. It looks like it’s on Thursdays at 1 PM eat every Thursday. And interestingly, we are flying in on a Thursday and flying out on a Thursday. But our flight comes in at 6:30 AM and it leaves at 7:30 AM, so it will not be possible to hang around till 1 PM. I just wonder how the logistics will work. Seems like a lot of flights come in in the morning there.

Keflavik Airport has an interesting history. It was built by the US military during WWII and used as a military base until the end of the war. It was then given to the Icelandic government.

However, as the Cold War heated up, the US Navy returned and made parts of it a Naval air base. The Navy left at the end of the Cold War.
