Iceland Travel questions

Hi, our trip to Iceland is set for June 22 to 3July 2025, we are arriving at Reykavik on a cruise, Norwegian Prima. I am trying to find the best and least expensive way to get transportation between Reykavik center after a drop off from a tour that ends in Reykjavik at 8 pm and either go directly to an airport hotel in Kevlakvik or stay at a hotel in Reykjavik and then take some transportation to the intl KEF airport. The hotel shuttle starts only at 5 AM but our flight is at 6 am and we were told it's best to be there 3 hours before so we'd have to leave at 2:30 am. Does anyone know of public transportation or private transfers that will not break the bank? That leaves this early. Amazingly, the hotels in either Rejkavik or KEF dont have shuttles to the airport to accommodate the very early flights that practically ALL the airlines have leaving internationally. Any help or suggestions is welcome.

Hi vicki, I’d plan to take the shuttle/bus and stay at an airport hotel the night before departing. There’s one called the Northern Lights Hotel that looked nice. It’s only a few minutes taxi to the airport.

The bus was not an option for us due to a Heritage Day where they closed all the downtown streets and access. We took a taxi the day of our flight which cost $165. It’s about a 45-60 min ride.

Most of us take the Flybus but the schedule may not be to your liking.

I would contact them to see if they will have more options in June of next year. It used to run all night.

There is another company Airport Direct the offers similar services.

From hotels near KEF, you would need to take a cab.

The Hotel Aurora is on the airport property and a five minute walk to the terminal. I've stayed a few times. Basic but clean.

You could stay in Reykjavik and take a taxi to the airport the next morning for your flight. Taxis cost about $150 one way. However, I agree with checking the Flybus schedule to see if there's anything that fits your timing the night before and stay at the Aurora Hotel at the Keflavik airport.

Even staying in Keflavik town, we had a hard time finding a hotel that has a shuttle to the airport. A taxi from our AirBnB to the airport (5 km) cost us nearly $30 USD. I've heard that Hotel Berg in Keflavik has a shuttle to the airport; check timing with them if you don't want to stay at the Aurora.

Hi thanks to everyone, have decided to take the Fly Bus to KEF airport Sunday night late and walk to and from the Aurora Hotel, saving taxi costs. Aurora is quite expensive too but what can you do if it's walkable to the airport? I still find it unusual that the hotels dont have a shuttle service that accommodates all the clients that have flights this early in the morning.

We are taking the 3-day tour to Golden Circle and south Coast from Nice Travel Tours, Has anyone else used them or taken their tours? We want to be able to see the most possible in one tour without having to pay for hotels in Reykjavik.

I ll come back on this forum after the trip to try to help out future voyagers going to Iceland,
Gonna be a while since our cruise is in June 2025!! LOL

The Aurora Hotel is your best bet, so good to hear you have that booked. It is a 5 minute walk to the terminal. Their breakfast does not start early enough for you, but let them know when you need to leave and they will give you a to go breakfast box.

As for Nicetravel, we have not used them, but a few friends have and were happy. We prefer to self drive. If you opt for that, read through here and get some ideas.

Hotel shuttles are not a thing at all in Iceland.

Hi vicki, last year we did a day trip with Nice Travel to the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon & Kerid Volcano. Our guide was a geologist and did an excellent job. Great day, highly recommend!

Staying at the Berg Hotel by the airport on the way back (Nov 30). I booked because they said they had a shuttle! Hope so!

We took two tours with them in July and they were both great. One was to the Golden Circle and the other was a two day tour to the South Coast. Both guides were excellent and did their best to accommodate the interests of each group. I highly recommend them.

flhockey22, instead of "hoping" that Hotel Berg has a shuttle, why don't you contact them? Try sending an email. According to their website: "We offer free drop-off to Keflavík International Airport for guests scheduled to take a flight. All guests are asked at check-in if they want to use the drop-off service."

Hi yes its a good idea to ask the hotels what time their shuttle starts
Checked out Bernhard Guest house as well as some other but shuttle starts at 5 am.
The more luxury hotels also have shuttles but none start at 3 am.
Our best bet is to book the Aurora Hotel and walk there.
