Iceland Ring Road Itinerary - Help!

I'm hoping the experienced folk here can help with my Iceland itinerary plans - I've already got the flights booked and know the number of days, but I need to figure out how to fit it all in. Currently my draft itinerary looks like this (the destinations are where I will be sleeping) :

Mon Reykjavík - Arriving 3:10pm

Tues Skagafjörður

Wed Mývatn

Thurs Mývatn

Fri Seyðisfjörður

Sat Höfn

Sun Reykjavík

Mon Reykjavík

Tues Leaving 11:45am

My concern is that on the Sunday, I'll be leaving Höfn and arriving fairly late in Reykjavík, meaning I won't get to see much of Reykjavík. The next day I have the option of seeing Reykjavík or the Golden Circle, and based on the priorities in the book, the Golden Circle should be the priority. My thought however is that maybe I should not do the extra night in Mývatn and instead be able to explore Reykjavík instead.

What does everyone think? Is an extra day in the Mývatn area more of a priority than seeing what Reykjavík has to offer?

Regarding the time in Reykjavík, it will depend how much you enjoy being in a city/town vs. nature attractions. I personally would feel cheated going to a country and not spending time in its main city, but that’s just my preference. I am planning on spending at least 2 full days in Reykjavík since the rest of our trip will be the ring road attractions. We plan to stroll through the Reykjavík streets and neighborhoods, bookstores, shops, cafes, restaurants, music stores, etc. and are doing this at the beginning of our trip. I personally would not do the extra night in Mývat to allow for time in Reykjavík, but again, it depends on your personal preference. Also, what month will you be there? That will make a difference (daylight hours).

i don't like it.

there is A LOT of driving planned for your trip.

hofn to reykjavik in a day?? what about jokullsarlon or it's sister site? vik and reynisfjara? skaftafell national park? the waterfalls? fjaðrárgljúfur canyon? ingolshofdi? dyrholaey? i wouldn't in a million years ever consider blowing off any of these sites for an extra afternoon in reykjavik. never.

reykjavik is a city. big deal. harpa is a nice musical venue with an exceptionally cool design. the national museum is worthwhile. but there isn't much to see. and in summertime there will be plenty of tourists crowding the downtown streets.

and think of it this way--if you ever make it back to iceland what is the one place you are virtually guaranteed to see? reykjavik because of the nearby int'l airport. myvatn? this will probably be your one and only opportunity.

stick to myvatn. there is a lot to see and do up there! go whale watching up the road a bit in husavik. go to the nature baths for a dip. go to krafla. take the geo excursions full day super jeep trip to askja--
