Iceland in 9 days

Thanks for the help, which is always helpful.

I arrive on June 18th and will have 72 hours before my friend arrives then 4 days with her and then 48 hours once she leaves. I am trying to figure out the best way to see this wonderful country. I thought maybe head to the west part of Iceland for two days(not sure where to stay?) and then head back to the airport on the Friday and stay in Reykjavik for 4 days where we could do the Golden Circle, Reykjavik and the south coast as far as Vik as day trips. There is a lot of daylight hours which is great so we can see a lot and still have chance to hike etc. Then I have 2 days left once she leaves and not sure what to do or where to go during that time, stay in Reykjavik and hang out?

Any suggestions would be appreciated:)

1 or 2 nights in Reykjavik is probably enough. The best scenery and the really amazing part of Iceland is outside the city. will you have a car? It is a little choppy to have to do it the way you do - in terms of meeting up and dropping off your friend. I would probably take 2 days for Snaefellsness, meet up with your friend and head to the south coast as far as Jokurlarson (staying over night along the way), then deposit her back at the airport and maybe spend the last 2 nights in Reykjavik, checking out the city and doing the golden circle. I would not want to do Vik as a day trip.

take the ferry to westman islands for the day - depart and return on the same day. we found it to be a major highlight of our trip - something we looked forward to - and it even exceeded our expectations. fun and unique experience, i highly recommend.
