Iceland - Canadian Passport Expiry Rules

Where can I find the Iceland rules for passport expiry dates?

My Canadian passport expires 5 months after my trip.

The Rick Steves book says to renew if 6 months remaining and I read on an Iceland website 3 months.

Can someone point me to the “official” Iceland information?

But...your immediate problem will be the airline you fly, they are responsible for verifying validity of the passport and may have policies that supersedes Iceland's requirements, or at least if they do not let you board, what Iceland thinks is moot.

So start with your airline, they may have an app on their website for you to enter pertinent information into to determine if they will accept.

A second issue is that Iceland, being part of the Schengen area, may consider requirements of partner countries if you are continuing on into the Schengen area.

In the end, if you have time, why not just renew now and eliminate any risk?

There is only 1 rule for the entire Schengen Zone, because once you’re in you generally don’t encounter passport controls when traveling from one Schengen country to another. But even if you encounter a border check between two Schengen countries the rule remains the same. This rule is that your passport must be valid until the end of your stay plus an additional 3 months. The reason that some sources say you need 6 months is because you’re allowed to stay in the Schengen zone for 90 days (roughly 3 months) without a visa. A maximum stay of 3 months plus 3 months validity remaining makes 6 months.
However if you can proof that you’ll only plan to stay for 2 or 3 weeks for instance, you should be okay with your current passport.
