Hotels in Reykjavik

Can anyone recommend a good, central hotel in Reykjavik? I will be visiting at the end of July and need to get something booked soon! Thanks in advance for your assistance.

We stayed at the Iceland Parliament Hotel in downtown Reykjavik in September 2024, and absolutely loved it! It is on the central square by the Althingi (Icelandic Parliament) and the city hall. It is a good, central location, with a good hotel breakfast, and walkable to much of the sites, and many restaurants, in Reykjavik. They have an on-site spa as well. I will caution that it is quite pricey, but we thought it was well worth the price, especially if you are a member of Hilton's HHonors program.

@mikliz97 will have lots of wonderful information on other lodging options in Reykjavik, and goes to Iceland very frequently. I'd strongly advise following their advice for lodging, food, and anything else Iceland-related.

Good luck and have fun! Iceland is amazing!

There are so many great hotels right in town. We personally love the Center Hotels which are very similar to Holiday Inn Expresses. CH Plaza is right smack in the heart of town. CH Laugavegur and CH Midgardur are on the main street but about a 15 minute walk from CH Plaza. That road though was a lined with shops/restaurants the entire way so you don’t even notice really. We have stayed at all 3 of these multiple times each. We were at the CHPlaza on our trip about 2 weeks ago.

Hotel Fron is great too and right on that main road very close in.

The Centrum is also very good.

You can’t go wrong with any of these, IME.

You will want to get lodging booked asap. Most places book out 9-12 months in advance so you may have a bit of difficulty. Plus with the eclipse the prices for this summer have skyrocketed. My husband will be back in late August and I booked his hotels back in January, to give you an idea.

Let me know if you have any other questions

I have twice stayed at the Center Hotel Laugavegur and will stay there again.

I have also stayed at the Canopy by Hilton a few times. Lovely hotel and a great breakfast buffet. But it was so noisy due to many clubs in the area. I won't be returning.

We really liked the Alda Hotel, right on Laugavegur street, very close to everything. The room and bathroom were huge, with very comfortable bed and linens and toiletries. We also liked the Fosshotel. The rooms had incredible views. It's a few blocks further out from the Alda and not quite as nice, but still a good option.
