Hotels in Hofn and Selfoss

Hello-
We are planning our trip for 3 couples in May. I am having trouble finding hotels to accommodate our group (Milk Factory was our preference but is booked). In Selfoss we are looking at Hotel Selfoss but they do not have a working website - I would prefer not to book through a third party (like booking.com, etc).

Any advice/tips would be great.
Thank you,
T

One reason you are having trouble is that most places in Iceland book out 9-12 months in advance, so you are really late to the game.

In Selfoss, we have had a great stay at Eldhestar.

FWIW, we use booking.com most of the time for our Iceland trips and so far have never had an issue. Many smaller places don't have their own booking platforms so only use booking.

Don't forget that outside of Reykjavik and Akureyri the towns are teeny and there isn't a lot of lodging. Much of it is out in the outskirts. So whether on booking or Googlemaps, put in a town, then scroll out to see what is available outside of town. Cottages are very popular and what we prefer, but there is a variety of options.

Agree with the first poster. We’ve been three times nd find that a lot of places don’t do their own booking. We’ve used booking.com many times with no problems.

My wife and I stayed at the Hofn Berjaya. Nice bay view location with a good breakfast offering. Convenient to Pakkhus Restuarant and the Hofn TI Center.

We also booked our entire 15 day trip through Booking.com.

In August 2025, my husband and I stayed at the Fosshotel Vatnajökull, just a bit outside of Hofn. I would opt for the standard room, not the economy size. Good breakfast options, comfortable rooms, and fantastic views. We went into Hofn for dinner. I would stay here again if in the area.

To follow up - we stayed in the REY Stays cabins in Hofn - so fun! We stayed for two nights and wished we could stay longer. The setting was so peaceful and beautiful. Picked up a few groceries for our breakfast and snacks.

In Selfoss we stayed at the Hotel Selfoss - very lovely and delicious food in the restaurant. We did not spend time at the spa but would hope to on a next visit.

Thanks again for your advice,
T
