I’d like to ask about the problems I have read concerning room temperature (too warm) and lack of thermostats at the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum. I have read about this issue from online reviews. Can anyone offer any insight as to this issue or perhaps speak to the fact that this problem has been recently resolved by the hotel? We were thinking of booking this hotel (which otherwise seems to be ideal in every respect), but the problem with temperature (and a good night’s sleep) is a dealbreaker for us. Also, any other thoughts you may have about this hotel and/or the Reykjavik Marina Hotel would be most welcome. Thank you.
I just replied to this on the other forum you posted on;) My husband stayed at the Centrum for several days last summer and we are booked there for this summer as well. He was there during a few warm days and he did not have any issue with the room temperature. Air conditioning is not a thing there, so just open the window to cool off if you need and also look for the radiator and turn that down.
Thanks, mikliz97. In the reviews I read, people who opened the window complained about the noise factor. Maybe the writers are somewhat noise-sensitive. No mention was made of turning down the radiator in my reading. It looks like a nice hotel. Thanks again for the reply.
Harwood--Noise can be an issue at any hotel in the downtown core, especially on weekend nights. My husband did not mention anything about that and he was there from Thursday through Sunday, FWIW.
I'll add that the Booking.com reviews for the Centrum I glanced at just now mentioned heated bathroom floors which might explain a bit of the temperature issue. Several mentioned they closed the bathroom door and opened windows or asked for a fan at the hotel desk. Also many hotels in Iceland use duvets and if you're not used to sleeping under one, that can make you even warmer. I stayed at a hotel near the Centrum and there was a bit of noise but primarily from inside the hotel as they had wood floors so you could hear people walking around (and rolling their suitcases). Earplugs solved that problem. FWIW I really loved the geothermal heated water in the shower - though it smelled like eggs, it was amazing! I was there in late October though so warming up was a priority.
Thank you. CL. Very informative and very much appreciated.
