What is "not too expensive" to you? When will you be there? How long? What will you be doing - just visiting the city or taking day trips? How many beds do you need (i.e., is it all adults or kiddos too?) All of those things would factor in to any recommendations people might have for you.

Not knowing your budget it is really hard to give solid recommendations. I will say that one of the places we have stayed in town that has room for 4 is Hotel Fron. Not most of their rooms, but we had the penthouse apartment which has 2 bedrooms, and it was perfect for us. There is designed parking here, but you need to reserve it in advance and it does cost now.

Center Hotels has a new(ish) thing and they have apartments now. So check those out and see if they fit what you are looking for. The nice thing about these apartments is that there is also a regular Center Hotel right next door, so if you arrive before check in your can leave your luggage, which is often times not the case with apartments. This one does not have designed parking.

Thank you both for tour reply.

I will be there in August for a 3 day layover on my way back home from the Nordics/Baltics.

We are planning on visiting Reykjavik and the golden circle.

Based on my research so far hotels are pricier than the average Northern Europe destination.

I’d like to be in the under $400 range. But realistically I’d say I’d be closer to the $500 mark a night. Clean and comfortable, with breakfast and parking.

Thanks

You're going in peak season and Iceland is expensive, no way around that unfortunately. I'd suggest doing a booking.com search for your dates and number of people (adults, children) and when you get the search results, filter by properties with parking. The map view helps you visualize locations. A quick dummy search on random dates in August turned up mostly apartments and many were under $400 per night. Just look closely at the sleeping arrangements - many show 1 queen bed and a sofa bed or something close to that. You don't have to reserve the room through that website, I just find their filters to be a good way to narrow down options. Good luck.

I agree, we use booking, com for most of our loading in Iceland. I will look there first and then book directly with the hotel if it is a better deal, but it just all depends. Booking is great though since the filter really helps. I would not worry too much about parking at the hotel as there are plenty of places to park in Reykjavik, including parking garages.

Yes, Iceland is expensive and people usually book out 9-12 months in advance, so what you are getting is the leftover, I am sorry to say. So higher prices.

For a family, your budget is pretty accurate, and I wowed be surprised if you had to go over $450 a night. If you don't find apartments or rooms for 4, you can get two rooms for two and that would still come in under $500 per night for most of the Center Hotels. We have stayed at those numerous times and keep going back since they work well for us.
