Anyone stayed at either of these hotels? If so, how did you like them and any suggestion about good places to eat while in Reykjavik?
We have not stayed at either, but know their locations. Hotel Borg is in a great location as it is walkable to everything a visitor would want to see. Hotel Grimsborgir is in Selfoss, but not right in town. It is about 10-15 minutes outside of town.
As for places to eat in Reykjavik, my list is long, and there are still many more places. Places that we really enjoy are the Sea Baron, Svjavargrillid, Forrettabarinn, Saeta Svinid, Islenski Barinn, Baka Baka, Loa, Skal!, Fjallkonan, Braud( not a restaurant but really good bread and pastries), ROK, and then Messinn which is hands down our favorite place in town and we try to go on every trip.
Cafe Loki is very popular, and some of the food is fine, but I find there are much better places and far less crowded. One place that we really disliked was Tapa Barinn. The food was fine, nothing great, but the tables are teensy tiny and so close together. The tables literally only held two tapas plates and two drinks total, with no extra room. We had a few plates and then just gave up and left.
There are a number of food halls and those have some great places in them. Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not mention the hot dog stands. I won't eat hot dogs here at home, but there they are so good!
I enjoyed a food tour with Your Friend in Reykjavik. We had small plates at a number of popular restaurants including the Sea Baron and the really yummy hot dog stand. It was a great orientation to the historic center and I was stuffed to the gills by the end.
We have also done that food tour a couple of times and agree it is excellent. There is enough food to easily cover you for both lunch and dinner.
