Hostels? Looking for hostel suggestions for Reykjavik, Golden Circle, Vik, and Snaefellsness Peninsula. Looking for good, clean hostels during the month of March. Any suggestions?
In Vik, we have stayed at Giljur Guesthouse which is a bit of a hostel. The rooms are individual, (extremely basic) and there are 2 bathrooms that are shared. There is also a communal kitchen for you to use.
In Stikkishomur, take a look at Akkeri Guesthouse. It is not a hostel, but is very inexpensive especially in March. We have stayed there and really enjoyed it. I know there is another guesthouse in town that is more like a hostel with shared baths and a communal kitchen and that one is the Sjavarborg. I have not stayed there so can't comment, but I am sure you can find it on booking.com .
Otherwise I can't help with hostels as we usually stay in cottages. I would look at booking.com though as they have those listed along with hotels etc. If you find something that looks good to you and want info on the surrounding area, just ask. We have been many times so I probably have a good idea of the locations.
Thank you this is great information! I will pass on to my grandson who is going to Iceland for spring break.
Happy to help. May I ask how old he is and if he is planning to drive? The reason is that the rental car companies have age limits for renting. Usually 20 years old, but if they want to rent a full size vehicle then the age is 23. Also, March is still solidly winter there so he would want to opt for full insurance not skimping on anything. Then the biggest question is his driving experience since Iceland its like no other place in the US for driving.
agree with MikLiz. March is still very much winter and even experienced drivers have reported harrowing driving conditions. Make sure that your grandson checks weather conditions daily (even several times a day) on the official weather and road closure sites.
