Horseback riding in Iceland?

does anyone have experience going riding in Iceland? It has been a dream of mine for a long time. I am an experienced rider but a bit rusty since i sold my horse 15 years ago.

I am looking at two sites:

http://storikambur.is/en

http://icelandichorse.is

The first is a small family-run fame on the peninsula just below Reykjavik (I think). The second is up on the north coast, farther away, and they say it rains very little. Both appear to offer smaller, more personalized riding experiences. In either case we would spend 2-3 nights in the area and would be looking for other things for my husband to do.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I also consider myself an accomplished reader but I am a totally inexperienced rider. That was my first ride ever. To my surprise I rode for 2 hours and didn't fall of my (well, not exactly mine) horse. The horse was grazing whenever he wanted and soon it happened that I did not see any other horses and riders. But fortunately he knew where to find them. On the way back my horse was the fastest and we (him and me) were the first back at the farm. Not necessary to say that certain parts of my body ached. It was mostly raining and relatively cold despite being June. The farm (if I remember correctly) is little over half an hour from Reykjavik. They call the horses Icelandic ponies but in size they are much closer to horses than ponies.

I have not done it, but a good friend of mine who has horses in Oregon has. She talked highly about it! I will ask her and get back to you.

Thank you both! And thanks for the humor, Ilya. I have edited to correct my post.

Hoping to identify a farm that takes smaller groups, like 4-6, instead of the 15 people I have seen in the photos of rides close to Reykjavik.

Ok my friend that has done it went with Wildwomen Expeditions. She said they are on FB.
Good luck and please report back after you have done it. I’m interested in it someday myself.
