Hiking in Iceland

What part or area of Iceland is better than others for non touristy hiking? Any good moderate to semi difficult hikes you can recommend? Also some maybe 1 -2 hour easy to moderate hikes. Also, where these parks or places are located, can you recommend nice accommodations?
Thanks so much!

Iceland has tourists all over, so it is harder to find non touristy hiking areas. I suggest getting a guidebook so you can familiarize yourself with what Iceland has to offer. I couldn't possibly list all the hiking opportunities on here. Hornstrandir its great for more challenging hikes, Thorsmark is great too, but more moderate to challenging. Hengifoss is easy. Glymur. Gjain. Landmannalaugar. Just so many and all over the island.

I suggest first deciding how much time you have, where you want to focus and then dive in from there on more detailed research. Iceland With A View is an excellent source and she has a You Tube channel as well.

Once you have at least a start of an itinerary, come back and ask more questions to fine tune it. Lodging of course depends on where you want to be, your budget, how many people etc.

Thanks so much! I'm probably the worst planner/researcher for travel ;) I'd just like to travel to several areas that are not packed on the trails and has good scenery. I'm not on a time constraint.
Do you know anything about the highlands? That sounds not so crowded.

Island With A View does trip planning and she is a hiker, so you might reach out and see what she can offer. The highlands are one area we h ave not made it to yet. Hornstrandir up in the Westfjords has hardly anyone since there are no roads, nobody lives there etc. We have done the Green Cliffs of Hornstrandir there, but there are easier ones as well. We have also hiked all around Thorsmark. Again fewer people, but this one is a start or end of the Laugavegur trail so there are people around, but they are either starting the trek or ending. There are some great trails here! We spent 3 days hiking in this area, and it is nice because you can do one designated trail, or add on bits and pieces of others.

Here are two links. One is for who we used for Hornstrandir and the other is for Thorsmark.

https://boreaadventures.com/#our-adventures The Wildlife and Heritage tour or the Hornvik sound like what you are looking for.
