We have booked a car using credit card points. My question is if anyone has done this and what the experience was like picking up at Keflavik, early morning. There is an awful lot of fine print, and the credit card books it through a 3rd party, (car rental.com or bookings.com). I know to take the full insurance, I'm more concerned about Hertz finding my reservation since it was not made directly through them. When I go to the Hertz website it does not recognize the confirmation number. It is making me a bit uneasy! This was done through Chase travel, so a highly reputable credit card.
I have booked car rentals with 3rd partiesl but have always been able to find my reservation when checking with hertz. I would call Hertz if the website is not pulling it up for you.
I've had the same experience when booking Hertz via AutoEurope, ie the reservation wasn't showing up on the Hertz website despite there being a Hertz reservation number on the AE confirmation voucher. A quick phone call to Hertz resolved things pretty quickly: they issued me a new Hertz booking that mirrored my original AE booking (and at a lower price at that) . Once the transaction was complete I simply had to cancel the original booking thru AutoEurope. The whole thing took all of 10 minutes over the phone.
We have always used a local car rental company there, so I can't comment on your situation. I agree with the others, give them a call.
