Have you looked at some sample itineraries in a book like Lonely Planet, etc? Or on the Iceland or Reykjavik Visitor website? You're probably having an awful time because 6 nights is not much. You can easily spend a few nice days just checking out Reykjavik. It's a great little city, I wouldn't skip it. I did day trips from there to a different place each day.

Thanks so much for replying...yes...have researched endlessly, it's ming boggling. I think we'll be on road too much...guess I'm leaning toward cutting out Myvatin.... did you go to Westman Islands?

No. I just did the following: Golden Circle, Snæfellsjökull, somewhere on the southwest coast I can't remember near Vik (it was a black beach), Blue Lagoon, Thingvallir Park (that may have been part of the Golden Circle), and lots of sightseeing in Reykjavik. I even spent half a day at an amazing gym with an Olympic sized swimming pool and various saunas right on the edge of Reykjavik, which was heaven! I didn't have enough time to make it to other regions of Iceland.

If you think there's even a remote chance that you'll fly Iceland Air again and be able to do a layover, maybe that can take some stress out of the equation. I've been to Iceland twice, and I just do a little more each time. Don't try to do it all. Pick a region and just explore that area as well as you can. Come back again if you like it.

Prioritize and look at the sunrise and sundown times during the dates of your trip, so you can pace yourself. It's amazing how much you can pack in during the summer given the sun doesn't go down. But it will mess with your circadian rhythms.

With only 6 days you really don't have time for Myvatin. Stick to South Coast sites, Golden Circle, Rejkjavik & day trips from there.

We just returned from Iceland. We got in late afternoon on a Monday and left Friday morning. It was not enough time for everything we wanted to do. We never really explored Reykjavik or got in a thermal bath. We stayed in Reykjavik all nights but one and that worked out well. We did the West Coast drive the first day. The Hranfossar and Barnafoss Waterfalls were probably our favorite waterfalls of the whole trip and we were not impressed with the Grabrok Crater. The next day we did the Gold Circle and some of South Coast. I would redo this and just do the Gold Circle and stay in Reykjavik. We stayed that night at the Hotel Geirland. and drove onto the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and took a zodiac boat tour and then drove back to Reykjavik. The glacier was truly a highlight of the trip.

I would stay in Reykjavik and day trip to West Coast, another day Gold Circle and then drive south and stay overnight at Geirland and the next morning go on to the lagoon and then either drive back to Reykjavik (6 long hours) or stay along the coast to make it more leisurely. The Blue Lagoon is expensive and you need to make reservations early but RS book has some local pools that looked amazing.
I don't know if that helps but it is truly an amazing country with such nice people. Have fun.
