Does anyone know how medical care works in Iceland? My partner is a veteran who uses VA care. What does she need to do if medical care is needed during our visit?
You need to buy insurance if this is a concern, or a risk you want to mitigate.
Thanks, that’s what we thought.
and Medicare doesnt work abroad either.
Yes, we have Tricare (not old enough for medicare) and we always have to buy medical insurance for when we go. The one thing you really want to look for is the coverage. Standard coverage is pretty low, so we always opt to go premium for that. We buy it through USAA.

Correct, but supplemental Plan G does cover a limited amount of foreign emergency medical care. I have one of these plans, have never used it for a medical claim abroad, and if/when I need it I will find out how useful it is.
We have USAA auto and homeowners insurance so I’ll check them out for this coverage. Thanks all for your responses.
In general it works great. But non-Europeans have to pay the full price of the treatment, so make sure you have some kind of insurance.
I was able to purchase travel insurance through USAA. Thanks for all of the info.
Glad you were able to get it:).
