Food Timing on Icelandair

Dear travelers,
My husband and I are flying from Boston to Iceland and we learned that food is not provided (free) on these flights. We are planning to purchase something but wonder about what time do they serve the pre-purchased food. That will determine if we buy something more like a dinner (early in flight) or a breakfast (end of the flight). Also, please advice on the quality of the pre-purchased food. Is it better to just bring our own snacks?
Many thanks!
Wendy

My experience was they started meal service not too long after takeoff for an overnight flight from the west coast. I didn't find the food that appetizing so I would eat at the airport before you depart or bring your own snacks.

We have been to Iceland many times and the food on the flight, for economy class, is hit or miss. We have only ever preordered once, and that meal was absolutely horrid. We asked the FA if we could purchase the ham and cheese baguette instead. He brought them complimentary, so they must get that a lot. The baguettes are actually pretty good, IMO, and that is what stick to now. I would though recommend eating in the airport before the flight or bring your own snacks. Since you are going to Iceland, you will probably be bringing your own refillable water bottle. On the plane, you can go back to the FA's and they will refill that for you as many times as you like.

They have dinner, but nothing for breakfast, in flight. At least on the flights from SEA.

We haven't flown Icelandair in a while, but on one of our flights, there was an announcement made that anything with peanuts was banned on the flight due to someone with a peanut allergy. I mentioned to the flight attendant that we didn't bring anything that didn't contain peanuts. She kindly comped us some sandwiches after the meal service had been completed.

I'm leaving on Wednesday with my daughter from Minneapolis. We are flying to Iceland on Icelandair. Our plan is to have dinner at one of the many good restaurants at MSP. (our flight leaves around 7:30pm) and bring snacks along for later, just in case. Our flight arrives around 6:30 am so we plan to wait till we get to Reykjavik and get something for breakfast there (probably one of the delicious Braud cinnamon rolls I keep hearing about).

For an overnight flight of just a bit longer than 5 hours, I would bring nothing more than snacks.

We were on a 6.5 hour flight last month, Nashville to Reykjavik that departed at 9 pm. Dinner was served about 45 mins after departure (we had eaten prior to boarding). About an hour out of Reykjavik beverage service and breakfast was served—coffee was free. As I recall there were two breakfast options neither of which looked appealing. We had our own protein bars to eat with the coffee. There are many food options in Keflavik airport if you can’t wait til your first destination for breakfast.

Mardee--There is a great little bakery not far from KEF, Kokulist, about 5 minutes or so and they open early. There is also a Braud not far from there either. It is in Gardabaer and attached to the Kronan store.
