First time registering for EES

Our first trip abroad since EES started is in 3 days in Iceland. Those of you already experiencing this, how long did it take you to get through to baggage claim after the kiosks??

Is it as bad as I hear as in Lisbon?

We normally do not check our bags, and didn't on our last trip which was in March. The kiosks were not up and running, so when we showed our passports, they did the fingerprints and biometrics there. It was very quick, less than a minute.

It would be great if people could tell you their experiences and you could reasonably assume your experience would be similar. That is not the case with EES. Experiences vary, even within the same airport on the same day.

It can go quickly, 10 minutes or so with machine registration and egates. It can go slow, 90 minutes with multiple fights and manual processing. It can go anywhere in between those two numbers. Pack your patience and be ready for anything.

Interestingly, there are multiple reports that even though travelers have registered with the system at one port of entry, they are simply asked to repeat the entire process at their next entry.

Everyone is having a different experience in all countries. Be prepared to go with the flow because there’s too many variables right now to expect your experience to be the same as the other person.

The kiosks at KEF are not going to be up and running until the fall according to the news in Iceland. So everything will still be manual like what we experienced in March. As with anything in travel everybody’s experiences differ, but this is at least what we had firsthand.

I last went through in March. The line for passport control took about an hour with several flights landing around the same time. EES was really quick at the immigration booths, but the line was really long. Once I got through that part, the rest was really fast. Baggage was already waiting for me.

My answer is, depends on the arrival time of your flight. earlier is busier. We were delayed, arriving at 11AM, it took us 15 min to get though the manned EES at passport control. Now I am ready for future travels.

TONS and TONS of machines were set up, but none working. We arrived in country June 13. Pretty easy breezy at KEF.
