Finally … off on our adventure

Today we made it thru Tulsa airport and on our way to Iceland with tour company IGOT2TRAVEL. For a week in Iceland. Then Glasgow for a few days. Then Scottish isles of Orkney and Shetland with Seymour Travels. Then to Edinburg a day or so. Home.

It has been a long three years of no travel for us.

Leaving hot temps in Oklahoma. Yay!

Tammy - it is James Macletchie’s ( an RS tour guide). His company. He was our Scotland tour guide in 2018. He has his own tour company plus doing some RS tours. He is from the outer Hebrides. He has a tour guide friend in Iceland (guide is Hildur). Staying for about 10 days ish. We were going to do his Hebrides in 2021 but Covid still bad. Then thought we would do it this year but too much to handle . To many logistics for me! Lol. Maybe we will try next year

This is a short blurb …. Oh my forget how much I miss traveling to Europe. I feel out of practice a tad but. Oh where did I put my phone, which pocket is the room key, etc.

I highly recommend Iceland … weather is fantastic. I am not a hot weather person. I think I actually brought the right clothes this time. My hiking boots are starting to pull away from the toes area. Guess I did not notice when I packed them. We found a hardware store and got some super glue. I think they will work, if not I got other shoes. At least I can dump them at the end of the trip.

We have been here two days now. Guide and one other couple . We did not know them. We hit the jackpot with our guide Hildur and our travel mates!! Love love it so far.

Our guide picked us up at the airport, immediately went into action site seeing. Stop at a Viking museum and the lava museum. Kodak picture moments along the way. Took the ferry over to the westman islands. We are here for two nights. Leaving tomorrow back to mainland Iceland. Today we went to southern tip in search of cute puffins, lighthouse and surrounding beautiful lava islands, RIB boat ride, volcano museum giving details of the 1973 eruption. Just a fantastic day.

I highly recommend IGOT2TRAVEL tour company. Small group tours. James does outer Hebrides ( which we want to do). His friends Hildur does the Iceland tours. James was our RS 2018 guide.

That’s all for now

Thank you so much for posting! I keep checking, lol! I am not a warm weather person either, so Iceland is perfect for me;) I hope the glue holds up for you! I will definitely look that tour guide up!

Hi, I am new to the Iceland forum. Just wanted to say I hope you will have time to keep posting as your trip continues. I love the immediacy and excitement of it and the tips I am picking up through reading. Keep journaling for us if you can. 😀

I hope the trip continues to go well. My husband and I returned from Scotland two weeks ago (my first trip). I regret we did not get over to the Orkney or Shetland Islands or Outer Hebrides (new bucket list item). After seeing the everywhere, almost unbelievably beautiful landscapes of Scotland (especially Glencoe, the Isle of Skye, and sights and sites along the North Coast 500 route), I am eager to plan (and execute) a first trip to Iceland.

AVogan.

We finish up tomorrow and head to Scotland on Monday. Hildur our guide (from Iceland, lives here) is fantastic. As most guides we have met, she knows her business, where and what to see, has connections in the industry.

There are only four of us. We were blessed beyond measures to have a great couple with us(we never met them until last week, plus a precious zoom meeting months ago). This has been a fantastic tour!

Just bare with me…. I try to do a try report when I get back. But I have to work that following week (Mon- sat). Then only 3 days and we are off on a RS tour.

We went to about 4 museums, gorgeous waterfalls, National park Thingvellir, diamond beach , glacier lagoon and boat ride, and more.

I think the wow moment was our stay on Westmann island. Rode a rib boat tour and puffins.

Hotels great and food excellent!!

Kim--I really hope you do an indent report when you get back and have time! I just booked our 4th trip the other day, and it will be a camper van to the Westfjords. We will have the camper for 10 days, and when we return it we get a rental car and will head to the Westmann Islands. So I am especially interested in that and your thoughts/experiences!

Enjoy Scotland! We went once and absolutely loved it. Would love to go, so want to read about that as well. Safe Travels!
