Fimmvorduhals hike advice

Has anyone hiked the Fimmvorduhals trail. I have read much of the information regarding clothing, rain gear, poles, and transportation. The buses seem to be somewhat of a complicated part of coordination. Our group will be 6 people with multiple cars. We plan on leaving one car at Skogafoss and hiking from Skogafoss to Thormork. Is it better to hike the opposite direction ending at Skogafoss? Did you encounter any surprises along the hike? Can anyone give info or advice on this hike?

I have not done this hike, but we have spent several days at Thorsmark hiking around. The downside to ending at Skogafoss is that your legs will be tired and then you need to go down over 500 stairs. I personally would want to start at Skogafoss and go up the stairs and get that over with when the legs are fresh. Also, if you have time at the end, spend an extra day at Thorsmark. The hiking around there is excellent, but the Volcano Huts are just a nice way to relax too. Leave one car at the Bru Base parking lot, and when you are done take the South Coast Adventures bus to that lot. It is the closest stop to Thorsmark. You do need to book that bus way ahead of time.

The Volcano Hut lodge has food as well as just a large area to unwind. You can either camp, or book a yurt to a hut (tiny cabin). We had the hut and it was just fine. The showers are actually really nice! Even better than any campground we have stayed at.
