Can you recommend a farm visit & also a hydroponic garden visit for independent travelers (not with a tour group)

If you mean the tomato farm and restaurant, make reservations and then stop by. They have Icelandic horses there too.
I was on a tour that stopped there for lunch and a tour. Hadn't expected to like it that much, but the food was seriously delicious and the place was amazing. The restaurant is always busy, so reservations are recommended.

Yes, Fridheimer is great. You can stop by without reservations, but for a meal in the restaurant you will want to book that far in advance. They have a newish wine bar area with a bistro that you do not need reservations though.
