Does anyone have recommendations to safely view the volcano near Grindavik? There are multiple outfitters that have helicopter tours from Reykjavik, but we will be driving to and from the south coast and would like to stop and hike to observe the volcano if possible.

Right now, the hike in is only about an hour each way. Much better than the one in 2023 where it was a 12 mile round trip hike, which we did;)
Make sure you check the gas forecasts and air quality before you set out, and again once there. Things change quickly.
