Eating in Reykjavik

Do you have a recommendation for a restaurant with traditional Icelandic food for dinner in Reykjavik? Thank you.

Messinn is our absolute favorite, but we have also had great meals at Sjavargrillid, Forrettabarinn, the Sea Baron, Skal! and Islenski Barinn to name a few. The only place we have eaten that we did not care for was Tapas Barinn.

I second MikLiz’ recommendations for Sea Barron (delicious lobster soup) and Islenski Barrin. The arctic char on a bed of vegetables was done to perfection. I highly encourage you to make reservations ahead for Islenski Barrin because it gets busy in the evening. Lunchtime wasn’t too busy and I was able to walk in, not knowing that reservations is a good idea.

Do you know if it's possible (or necessary) to make a reservation at Seabaron? I tried to find where to do it with no success.

I think they only take reservations for 6 people or more. It’s a super casual place and the seating is in the back but there is an upstairs area as well.
