Driving the Westfjords

We're planning to drive the Westfjords in September and wonder if the major unsurfaced roads are doable and safe to drive in a mid-sized SUV and if four-wheel drive is necessary. Our route would be through Holmavik, Isafjordur and Patreksfjordur to the ferry at Brjanslaekur. Also, the same question relative to the road to Latrabjarg. Thanks. Ken

I drove across the Westfjords in a Toyota Yaris, no problem. Not as extensive as your route, but nearly.
