We are not usual dinner reservation kind of people - we don't typically eat where reservations are required. But we do want to make sure we get dinner on New Year's Eve and have read that everything will be booked well in advance. Would we need to make reservations around Reykjavik at a $$ restaurant or somewhere casual? Thanks in advance!

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would say go ahead and make a reservation just to be sure that you will be able to have dinner that night. You could also ask on the TripAdvisor Iceland forum; there are several frequent posters there who live in Iceland.
