Car phone charger in Iceland

I will be renting a Toyota Rav 4 from Blue in May and I was wondering if I can use the same phone charger and cable I use at home in my Toyota Matrix that fits into the cigaretter lighter? Not sure if I need a special adapter?
TIA.

Cigarette lighter? I haven't seen one of those in years.

However, every newer car I know of has a USB port.

Haha! I know Frank. My matrix is 12 years old...but I love it. They don't make them anymore. Ok for the USB port...that will be perfect. Thanks!

Yes, just USB ports is all you need. BTW, know that even though you have reserved a RAV4 with Blue, there is a good chance you will not get that. We have used them many times, but the last one was awful. We had a junker instead of the RAV4, and they tried to say it was similar. Far from it:) So just be warned:)

Do we have any recourse against that? I know it says in the contract that we may get something similar...

I did not get anywhere, despite emailing the GM when we got home. The worst part was when I pointed out that what we were given was not comparable, and was priced lower on their website, the GM had included several employees as well as myself in the email. One of the employees did not notice I was in the email and went on to say that I had no idea what I was talking about and that basically I was stupid. When I brought this up to the GM, by himself, he just asked me to forget what the guy wrote. Not exactly stellar service, or even acceptable, IMO.

Many new cars still have 12 V-sockets. Although they can be in more hidden locations, like inside the glove compartment.

Ok, good to know. I wonder if we actually meet a real human being when we pick up the car keys when we already have checked in, which I have done yesterday.
I will also check the glove compartment...did not know that. ...thanks.

You can go inside and talk to a human when you pick up the vehicle.

mikliz97, after your experience with Blue this last time, what company would you recommend going through?

James--We plan to use Lotus next time. They are also a local company, and several friends have used them and had good experiences. I was so disappointed in Blue as our other rentals with them were great, but this one was over the top. We will only be in the north this summer, so had to go with Europecar. I am keeping my fingers crossed for that, even though they do get good reviews.

Many rentals now only have USB-C sockets for charging.

Our Iceland rental in 2023 only had one usb and one cigarette lighter type charger. I had grabbed my cigarette lighter charger on a whim and was glad to have it. We were charging two phones and the hotspot we rented there.
