Bus only to Blue Lagoon

We have a four hour layover in the Keflavik airport next week traveling from Seattle and onto Glasgow. We would love to get out of the airport but are reluctant to go to the Blue Lagoon because of the short, unpredictable time.

Is it possible to just take the bus to the BL and walk around for a little? Or is there anything else that we could walk or take a taxi to? We will have an 11 and an 8 year old with us.

Thanks!

No, there isn't anything else near it except for the Northern Light Inn which is just down the road from it. Either go for a soak, or skip this.

When you look at the time it will take to get out of the airport, especially if your plane disembarks on the tarmac and you have to bus to the terminal, and the time you need to return before your flight, you don't have a whole lot of time. You could take a taxi to Keflavik town (about $30 USD one way) and walk around. There is a trail by the water that would be good for letting your kids run some energy off.

Thanks. It sounds like we will just go to Keflavik town, if the opportunity presents itself. The kids want to say, we've been to Iceland!

Four hours definitely isn’t enough time to do the Blue Lagoon and get in/out of airport. BL is very expensive and if you do it, you don’t want to be rushed. There’s not a lot near the airport that’s pretty or interesting, honestly. If you want to leave and get lunch, though, Issi Fish and Chips is near the airport and is seriously the best F&C I’ve ever had, anywhere. It’s right next to two grocery stores which is fun to walk through with kids and look at all the different things for sale that the US doesn’t have.

Too early in the morning for me;) I missed the 4 hours until I read Kelly's post.

If that is just 4 hours for the layover itself, I would not leave the airport. If you do, I would be back at KEF a good 3 hours before the flight. After security, you go through the duty free store and then the shops/restaurants. They announce the gates only about 45 minutes before, so then people are scrambling to go through passport control and the lines get extremely long. We never wait in that main restaurant area, but instead go directly to the gate area and wait. Check to see which gates are used for Glasgow, and then you can decide where a good spot is to wait.
