Bidding up for Saga Class on flight?

I just got an email about making a bid to Class Up on my Iceland flight.

Anybody have any experience with this process?

Thanks,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

I did that on one of my flights on IA. The process is interesting, since you're bidding against other people. I think I bid up like $150 (per seat) and "won". I ended up getting a seat on the exit row next to the bathroom (where the door slammed all night). One the whole, it's according to whether sitting closer to the cockpit is worth it to you or not, and if so, by how much? The hope it you might be able to get a better seat in a more comfortable part of the plane for less than you otherwise would have paid for it. The game is how much to bid. I think anything more than 50% of the upgrade price has a good chance of getting the seat.

As I recall, I didn't know I'd gotten the seat until the day of my flight.

Would I do it again? Eh. IA is IA, no matter where you sit. If you're flying IA to fly cheap, IMHO, there's no point to paying more. If it's your first flight to Europe, or if you really can't stand the leg room (or lack thereof) in economy, there's no harm in trying.

Anyway, my experience plus $.02.
