Back to Iceland Travel Airport Transfer

Hello, hoping someone can tell me what I'm missing!

In the Rick Steves' Iceland book, there is reference made to a door-to-door airport transfer service offered by a company called Back to Iceland Travel - the book says it charges very little more than the buses that run from the airport into town (the 2018 Rick Steves version quotes a price of 3200 ISK per adult). Yet when I go on the company's website, it is showing a price of 17000 ISK - quite a difference!

Does anyone have experience with this company - or recommendations re: a reasonably-priced airport transfer for a late arrival flight (11:55 PM from Paris to Keflavik)?

Look into the Flybus - they have transfers timed with every flight arrival and departure

I used Flybus. It worked well. Very comfortable ride and price wasn't outrageous.

It‘s not door-to-door but I have always used Grayline which picks up at various bus stops, in my case next to the big church

Ditto Flybus. While they met all flights 24 hours a day, with Covid the timetable may be different.

What they do is go directly from the airport to the Reykjavik bus station. From there you transfer to smaller vans to take you to predesignated stops near hotels. Or, you could just grab a cab at the bus station. Reykjavik is not that big.

It's about a 45 minute drive from the airport to the bus station.

I've been to Iceland numerous times and I've always taken Flybus. Plus, the company operating the buses are also the largest tour company in Iceland and they offer package discounts for Flybus and tours.

If you are staying in a hotel in Reykjavik, make sure they know of your very late arrival or they may put you down as a no-show.

I happened to come across the pasted information below on the Iceland guidebook updates page and remembered your post. Of course even updates could be out of date at this point.

For books printed before June 2018, the following may also apply: Back to Iceland Travel no longer offers a shared minibus transfer from Keflavík Airport to town (they still offer a private door-to-door transfer).

We too have used Flybys and it was fine.

When we go in August, we are not using their bus, but instead have a private van from them since there are 5 of us. It was pretty much a wash as for cost with 5 people, and this way we don't have any extra stops to make etc.
