Has anyone driven the Arctic Coast Way from Husavik to Bakkafjordur? My map shows only a few short sections are gravel. Would a 2WD suffice?
While I haven’t been on that particular road we drove on many gravel road sections four years ago. Even parts of the ring road were gravel. No problem with a compact 2WD car. On a side note we had to wait at our rental car place 15-20 minutes both picking up and dropping off our car due to lots of people. The rental agents did a convincing hard sell for windshield insurance because of gravel roads and subsequent rocks kicking up to damage the windshield. Lots of customers bought it, but we didn’t see anyone driving around or returning a car with a cracked windshield.
Here is an article enter link description here
It says they saw a lot of 2WD cars but they were glad they had a 4WD.
If you do this drive, please come back and tell us about it.
We'll definitely report back. Thanks for the Summer Travel link It's the first one I've seen that covers the portion of the Arctic Coast Way we plan on taking.
