As I have said, I am at a place where I feel that I may only be able to buy Easy Shore Excursions and can no longer consider Moderate. This will limit my choices.
Two shore excursions for Akureyri interest me. Both are pricey.
One is:
Earth Lagoon & Godafoss Waterfall which will be 5 hours long and cost just over $300 with my discounts
Discover why Icelanders spend so much time in hot water as you luxuriate in a natural geothermal spa near famous Lake Mývatn. The scenery passed during your drive from Akureyri is remarkably unspoiled, a landscape of lava and moss with mountains always lurking on the horizon. Your destination is Earth Lagoon, a stunning open-air natural pool that offers the chance to soak in a pool of soothing, warm water drawn from deep within the earth. This delicious liquid contains a blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal microorganisms that are beneficial to both skin and spirit – and known to imbue bathers with a profound sense of well-being. This environmentally conscious spa just about 65 miles south of the Arctic Circle, in a designated nature preserve famous for its magnificent and curious ecosystem – and bathing in geothermal pools in the region has been a cherished tradition since the Vikings first founded Iceland. After spending two hours or so in the embrace of the spa’s waters, you’ll completely understand what brought them here.
and the other is:
Forest Lagoon & Panoramic Akureyri which is just 3 hours long and will cost me about $250. Description reads:
Enjoy a sweeping panorama of Akureyri from atop a nearby ski resort and afterwards relax in an outdoor geothermal spa that offers incredible views as well. As you ascend the slopes surrounding Hlíðarfjall ski resort, the area’s natural beauty will become more apparent. The view of the pristine fjord Eyjafjörður with Akureyri tucked along its western shore will be particularly memorable. More gorgeous scenery awaits you on the return to town as you will travel through the vast Kjarnaskógur woodlands, which incredibly was nearly treeless until it was reforested in the mid-20th century. It is a fittingly prelude to your time at the Forest Lagoon, an outdoor spa nestled in an idyllic setting among birch and pine trees. You will be free to indulge in the amenities, which include several naturally heated mineral-rich infinity pools. The water has therapeutic qualities, especially for the skin, and you can expect to emerge thoroughly relaxed.
