i put affordable in quotes because I know Iceland is a relatively expensive destination and "affordable" means different things to different people, but ideally I'd love to find a hotel room for a family of 4 for under $200/night (under $250/night???) in Reykjavik
I've read a lot of posts that recommend saving money by getting an airbnb/apartment and preparing our own food, but we are there for only one night on our way home from London, and don't want to spend our short time buying groceries/preparing food in our room.
I'm looking for any recommendations on accommodations that would be a comfortable place to sleep, possibly leave our luggage while we explore before our flight the next day, close to restaurants or whatever part of Reykjavik two kids (age 8 and 13) might find interesting. Doesn't to be fancy, we are ok with shared bathroom, but does need to be comfortable, safe and convenient. I also don't yet know if we will have a rental car (still deciding), if that makes any difference in lodging choice.
I've done some google/kayak/other internet searching, but I've also noticed that sometimes great recommendations don't show up in my searches, so I'm expanding my search engine to forum suggestions.
