9 hour layover in KEF

We’ll arrive in Iceland about 6 am and leave about 3 pm enroute to Istanbul this September Is anyone aware of local guides for short tour in Reykjavik or if there are easy transfer options back and forth to town for self tour/lunch?

I'll note that the bus terminal in Reykjavik is not all that close to the city.

Given the time considerations, you might be better off just taking a cab,
or renting a car for the day.

Another option is to get a shuttle to/from the Blue Lagoon, which is
much closer to KEF, assuming the volcano doesn't start going again.

I think what Shoeflyer meant to say was that the Reykjavik Bus Terminal is not near the airport. It's in the heart of the city.

It's about a 45 minute drive from the airport to Reykjavik.

Two companies that are mentioned often in this forum and offer private tours are Reykjavik Excursions which is the largest tour operator in Iceland and the people who run the Flybus and Troll

Since you will need to be back at KEF a few hours before your flight, that leaves you with about 5, possibly 6 hours max to explore.

Flybus into Reykjavik is about $38 US dollars per person and stops at the bus terminal and you switch to a smaller bus to go into Reykjavik.

A taxi runs about $150 and of course is door to door.

I am assuming this is an overnight flight with your arrival time, so if that is the case please do not rent a car. Jet lag hits hard.

The Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon (in Reykjavik) would be my suggestions. You could linger and have a nice lunch before heading back to KEF.

If you want to go into Reykjavik and have a tour of the city, I suggest the Citywalk "free" walking tour or their private tour. The free one (tip at the end) has tours that start at 10:30 and they go for 2 hours, so that would work for you and you could wander on your own before the tour begins. If you do a private tour, you can work with them to decide what time and for how long. We have done the "free" one a couple of times and it is very good!
